If you love to entertain, you’re not alone. So many of the custom homes Wooddale builds include flex rooms designated for hosting parties, game nights, movie nights, and more. Not all entertainment spaces are the same, but there are some things to consider regardless of your design. Here are a few things to keep in mind when designing the ideal entertainment space in your custom home.
How Do You Want to Have Fun?
The first thing you want to do when designing your entertainment space is to determine what entertainment means for you and your family. If watching movies is your thing, you’ll likely want a space that includes a home theater. Maybe you’re into playing games, in which case you’ll want to consider space for a pool table, darts, board games, air hockey, or arcade games. Perhaps you want a bar area for mixing and serving drinks during parties or on game day.
Or maybe you want a true, multi-use space that can be used for a little bit of everything when it comes to entertainment. At Wooddale Builders, we’ve designed and built it all. Our team will work with you to design the most practical layout for your custom entertainment space. We’ll take into account things like foot traffic, bathroom access, window and door placement, furniture, sound and/or sound proofing, and so much more.
Add Your Elements
Once you’ve defined how you and your family want to entertain in your home, the Wooddale team will know which elements to incorporate into your custom design, which may include:
- Home theater
- Game room
- Fitness center or yoga studio
- Custom library
- Bar area and/or wine cellar
- And more
We’ll work with you to make sure your dream home is truly unique and functional to accommodate your lifestyle. We’ve done it all and look forward to working with you to create a space tailored to you and your family’s needs and wants.
Avoid Clutter with Ample Storage
No matter the design of your entertainment space, you’ll want to have plenty of storage to keep things tidy. Built-in shelving units are great for displaying collectibles; storing games, books, and movies; or both. End tables, coffee tables, or ottomans can also be designed with stealthy storage capabilities, allowing you to tuck things away and out of sight until you need them.
Designing a bar into your entertainment space? Plan ahead and incorporate plenty of drawers, shelves, cabinets, and cupboards to create an inviting and orderly atmosphere for your guests.
Set the Mood with Lighting for Every Occasion
Whatever party or hosting vibe you’re aiming for, the perfect lighting will help set the tone. What kind of lighting will best enhance your surroundings? Maybe decorative wall sconces, cove lighting, or recessed lighting? Will you want dimmer switches for adjustable brightness? Is there anything in your entertainment space you’d like to show off or use as a focal point?
You may want different types of lighting in different areas of your entertainment space, and that’s where Wooddale comes in. Our design team will work with you to determine how your space or spaces will be set up and the best kind of lighting for the mood you want to set.
If you want overhead, recessed lighting in your bar area, we can do that. You may want to incorporate multiple lighting elements in a home library, with ambient lighting to set the tone and spaces with brighter, more radiant lighting for reading.
Cove lighting with dimmer switches and perhaps even some floor lighting for your theater room would add a touch of elegance and safety, and we can make that happen. If you’re highlighting artwork, collectibles, memorabilia, or other elements in and around your entertainment space, we will incorporate the perfect lighting to direct attention where it’s needed.
Include Comfy, Cozy Seating
Whether you’re hosting a movie night or having friends over for drinks at your home bar, you want your guests to be comfortable. Close, intimate seating is great for conversations or game nights. In your custom library, you may wish to have couches or recliners near windows or direct lighting. Tiered seating in a home theater is a must-have for creating that cinema-like feel and unobstructed views for guests. For casual dinner parties, you may want an oversized kitchen island with additional space for perimeter seating.
If you host large gatherings, you’ll want to consider the flow of foot traffic around your seating, too. That way, guests can easily maneuver themselves to the kitchen, to the bar, or to and from those seated areas to chat with friends or other guests.
No matter the design or layout, let the Wooddale team deliver the most practical seating solutions for your entertainment space.
